What am I working on? Sebastian’s Castle

As a new exercise, I’m posting something I have in progress, and talking a little about it, in the hope that this “behind the scenes” look might be interesting.

So, I need to design Sebastian’s castle, in Underverse.  He looks like this: SebastianBut he really looks like this: SebSpine: just a head and a spine.  He’s a variant of an Asian vampiric creature called a  Penanggalan , among other things.  So what would his castle look like?  He considers himself a very polite creature, and he’s also a wizard, so I think we need to have lots of towers.  My first impression was something like this:

But that was a little on the nose, so I started with the towers. I wanted them to have pointy things on top, and also look a little like a spine: CastleBlank

And after that, I added bricks and scales.  I colored it more flesh and bone colored, which made it almost whimsical.  There’s a slight distortion on the bricks’ UV map to make them look a little topsy turvy too.TowerSkinned

Then I just added more towers of differing scales, and added a wall to connect them.

Now I need to finish central buildings, the main gate, and maybe some tower windows.  And landscape it.

I hope you enjoyed this work in progress for Underverse, and feel free to comment if you have any questions.

Rebirth of a Blog

With the changing of the seasons comes new life and new energy.

I’m restarting my blog, and I hope to make a lot more content for it in the coming year.

Now that Shades Vol 1 is over at Comixology, I must make a Shades 2.

I’m going to link Underverse through here as well.

I hope to, on a regular basis, post a lot more WIP things for your amusement.

Let’s go indoors and look at the computer during the Spring of 2015.
