So, I’m working on a big scifi story… I think it’ll be at least the end of the year before I get all the models done, but Kheprit is the story of a soldier who is recovering the shattered, stolen hardware of one of the Great Nine artificial intelligences: OSIRIS. Along the way she picks up some companions, the beautiful miner Dale and his adventurous wife Kaylee (her name is a placeholder, His is a Dale Arden homage)
See, humans have developed FTL travel, and it works by poking a wormhole through another dimension. But that dimension isn’t empty, and so humans developed these AI to protect them from the Eldrich Horrors that might come through on a badly calculated jump.
Lovecraft+Egyptian mythology+scifi. How great is that idea?
But I wanted to try a more realistic style for this art. So here’s a sample shot of Kheprit so far. Warning, I haven’t modeled her flight suit yet, so she’s not wearing pants.
As always, feel free to comment. I’m probably going to have to do more modeling work on her hands and make a shoulder deformation fix when her arms are up like this. Also, her arms need a little more definition
So, what have I been working on? I have been working on setting up Far Weft, my etsy store for selling knitted creatures.
Here’s a Unicorn that will be for sale.
Wish me luck!
My wife was taking a class from Lisa Kessler, and one week she had to write a Romantic story. So I took a shot writing her idea. Although it wasn’t Romance enough for her, she liked it enough to post it here http://misplacedsanctuary.com. Check it out, and comment on it if you like it. Read some of the other posts while you’re there, too.
Crosspost! My weekly comic Underverse appears every Sunday.
Comixology Submit has accepted Shades, Vol 1! They are selling it right now!!!
As a new exercise, I’m posting something I have in progress, and talking a little about it, in the hope that this “behind the scenes” look might be interesting.
So, I need to design Sebastian’s castle, in Underverse. He looks like this: But he really looks like this: : just a head and a spine. He’s a variant of an Asian vampiric creature called a Penanggalan , among other things. So what would his castle look like? He considers himself a very polite creature, and he’s also a wizard, so I think we need to have lots of towers. My first impression was something like this:
But that was a little on the nose, so I started with the towers. I wanted them to have pointy things on top, and also look a little like a spine:
And after that, I added bricks and scales. I colored it more flesh and bone colored, which made it almost whimsical. There’s a slight distortion on the bricks’ UV map to make them look a little topsy turvy too.
Then I just added more towers of differing scales, and added a wall to connect them.
Now I need to finish central buildings, the main gate, and maybe some tower windows. And landscape it.
I hope you enjoyed this work in progress for Underverse, and feel free to comment if you have any questions.
With the changing of the seasons comes new life and new energy.
I’m restarting my blog, and I hope to make a lot more content for it in the coming year.
Now that Shades Vol 1 is over at Comixology, I must make a Shades 2.
I’m going to link Underverse through here as well.
I hope to, on a regular basis, post a lot more WIP things for your amusement.
Let’s go indoors and look at the computer during the Spring of 2015.
